Star Report, Dhaka: At least 20-25 students were injured as alleged activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and police launched an attack on the student protesters at Dhanmondi 3 near Jigatola today.
The incident took place around 1:00pm when a group of alleged BCL men, some of them wearing helmets and carrying sticks, swooped on the students, parents leaving some of the students injured, reports our correspondent from the spot quoting witnesses.
From 4:30pm onwards, situation in Jigatola area turned volatile, with rumours of death, detention and sexual harassment being swirled around following attacks on students allegedly by BCL men.
Students were being chased away by police and youths, believed to be from ruling party. Our correspondents present on the spot heard several gunshots and teargas shells fired to disperse crowd.
