BBC MEDIA ACTION partners with SSD-TECH to relaunch BBC JANALA

In a major development today that may have far reaching implications for the common man of Bangladesh, BBC Media Action – BBC’s international development charity program, partnered with leading Technology group SSD-Tech, to bring easy English learning to the masses.

“BBC JANALA” – a flagship language learning program of BBC Media Action that began in 2009, has already been widely hailed across the country as it introduced English language learning through creative interaction and convenience to all segments of the population. More than 28 million Bangladeshi citizens have already benefited from this program in just 7 years.

While the program was not operational since 2016, its huge demand and immense popularity among the masses cried out for a viable alternative that would continue to spread English language learning in the country. Inspite of widespread requirement for English learning, no alternative came up in the interim years. It is to fill this essential gap, that SSD-Tech came forward to partner with BBC Media Action, and create a viable and sustained program to spread BBC Janala even wider. This program will enable a large number of citizens to get adequate exposure to the English language. By tapping into the growth of Bangladesh’s mobile phone and television industry, BBC Janala will offer affordable English learning tools to millions of people, helping them with the chance of a better job and future. It is the aim of this partnership to raise the English language skills of 25 million Bangladeshis by 2021.

MahbubulMatin, Chairman of SSD-TECH, stated that this via this renewed program, BBC Janala would touch the lives of many millions of Bangladeshi population at a very quick rate due to SSD Tech’s technological capability. Matin expressed strong belief that the program will continue to add value to those millions aspiring to learn the language by ensuring that BBC Janala reaches every corner of the country at a very fast pace.

The agreement confirming this milestone partnership was signed at the corporate headquarters of SSD-Tech at Dhaka, and was attended by the leadership of both BBC Media Action and SSD-Tech, including Mr. Hasan Mehdi, CEO – SSD Techand Mr. Richard Lace, Country Head – BBC Media Action, Bangladesh.
